#BreakingNew s: IMPURITY Blends Sundanese Culture with Sandekala Myth in New Single "Wanci Surup"

Just five months after releasing "Resital Genosida," Bandung-based Deathcore unit IMPURITY is back with a new single, "Wanci Surup" released on August 30, 2024 which is now available on various music platforms. The song draws inspiration from Sundanese cultural beliefs, particularly the myth of "Sandekala"—a time when evil spirits are believed to roam at sunset.

"Wanci Surup" captures the twilight transition from day to night, a time when Sundanese folklore warns people to stay indoors to avoid encounters with malevolent spirits. The lyrics, predominantly in the Sundanese language, reflect this cultural theme, and the song is further enriched with traditional Gamelan music. The release is accompanied by a lyric video that visually portrays the mystical atmosphere of "Wanci Surup."

The single, which follows their previous release "Resital Genosida," marks the band's ongoing commitment to incorporating traditional musical instruments into their work. "Wanci Surup" was inspired by bands such as Carnifex, Signs of the Swarm, Shrine of Malice, and Suicide Silence. Despite initially planning a music video, IMPURITY decided on a lyric video after seven months of production, completed at Sandekala Studio, the home studio of their drummer.

This release serves as an introduction to an upcoming EP, continuing the band's exploration of blending traditional sounds with modern deathcore.
