#MusicReview : Symphonic Brutality: EDEN ADVERSARY’s Kingdom ov Heresy Redefines Deathcore
Eden Adversary's debut album "Kingdom ov Heresy," released on June 22, 2024, via Interlude Records, is a powerful blend of symphonic elements and brutal deathcore. Hailing from Solo, Indonesia, the band, formed in 2019, stands out not only with their intense sound but also with their mysterious, masked image, creating an aura of intrigue. Their signature look and sound have set them apart in the underground metal scene, as they consistently deliver performances cloaked in anonymity.
The album delves into apocalyptic themes drawn from religious scripture, reimagined with a dystopian twist. Across its 10 tracks, "Kingdom ov Heresy" offers a relentless onslaught of heaviness while also weaving in orchestral layers, elevating the overall atmosphere. Tracks like “Abandon Hope” and “Morbid Faith” stand out with their combination of intricate guitar work, punishing breakdowns, and epic symphonic backdrops. Meanwhile, "The Messiah" and "Lords ov Gehenna" show the band's ability to balance melodic complexity with sheer aggression, making the listening experience both emotionally charged and sonically diverse.
Vocally, the album is dominated by guttural growls and screams, delivered with unrelenting intensity by Ristian Nur Azis. Guest appearances, such as Makhlvk’s vocals on “Lords ov Gehenna,” add variety and a fresh dynamic to the closing track. The production is polished, which is impressive considering the obstacles the band faced in perfecting the album over the three years of its creation.
For fans of modern deathcore, "Kingdom ov Heresy" is a must-listen. The symphonic elements aren't overused but instead act as the perfect counterbalance to the relentless brutality, making this a standout release in the genre for 2024. Eden Adversary has not only cemented their place in the Indonesian metal scene but is also gaining international recognition.
