#BreakingNews : TORRO Drops Explosive New Single "9'5 Machine"—A Fiery Anthem for the Corporate Struggle
Jakarta, Indonesia – February 2025 – Jakarta-based rock outfit TORRO kicks off the year with a fierce, high-energy single, “9’5 Machine”—a track that perfectly encapsulates the frustration of being trapped in the endless cycle of corporate drudgery.
“Ever felt like a cog in the bureaucratic machine? Forced to ‘dance’ at your boss’s command, only to realize that your desk lamp is actually the real moon?” asks guitarist Rangga Widya, better known as Ronggeng, as he describes the essence of the song. “If so, congrats—you’re officially a ‘9 to 5 Machine.’”
TORRO, consisting of Gania S (vocals), Riyan Widya (bass), and Rangga Widya (guitar), delivers a raw, tight, and undeniably sexy sound in this new track. For their live shows, they are joined by Andrian on drums, adding even more intensity to their performances.
A Postpartum Comeback & Studio Hustle
In a true display of dedication, TORRO wasted no time getting back into the studio—just one month after vocalist Gania gave birth to her child. “Rangga had actually written the music at the end of last year. Riyan and Rangga jumped straight into recording, and ‘9’5 Machine’ was one of the tracks we worked on,” Gania shared.
Packed with pounding drums, wild yet seductive guitar riffs, and a groovy yet punchy bassline, the song exudes an unstoppable energy. Not to mention their signature tambourine touch, adding an extra layer of character. Gania, a mother of four, delivers her vocals with raw emotion—full of rage, frustration, and sarcasm.
“There’s a funny story from the vocal recording session,” recalls Riyan. “Our mom happened to hear Gania screaming during takes, and she just shook her head and said, ‘At this rate, my grandchild’s gonna have spiky hair!’”
The Reality of the Corporate Machine
Lyrically, “9’5 Machine” paints a bleak yet brutally honest picture of office workers trapped in an endless grind, unable to escape due to financial responsibilities. The song was born from casual conversations among friends, all of whom shared eerily similar struggles in the workplace—pressure from bosses, stolen ideas, denied leave requests, and the soul-crushing realization that they’re just machines following orders.
“You wake up, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat. Weekends? Just for resting. You can’t even take a break because there’s always another demand. That’s what being a ‘9 to 5 Machine’ is all about,” Rangga explained.
DIY Production & Nostalgic Artwork
For this release, TORRO took full control of their production, with mixing and mastering handled by Yoni, a well-respected name in the Bandung music scene.
The single’s artwork is a throwback to 1990s pixel art video games, featuring a DeadMan character overwhelmed by problems. “I was watching a YouTube video about pixel art games with a VR setting, and I loved the aesthetic. So I developed the idea into what you see now,” Rangga revealed.
What’s Next for TORRO?
With plans for a second EP or full-length album in the works, TORRO is gearing up for more live shows across cities in the coming months. Gania is especially eager to hit the stage and scream her lungs out once again.
"9’5 Machine" is now available on all digital streaming platforms as of January 31, 2025. Show some love for TORRO and crank up this rage-fueled anthem of the working class!
